Hope you're doing good. Let me start off with...

The Fascinating Sherlockian Tit-bits of the Month

Whenever you think of the word 'Sherlock', obviously - there's only one person that comes to mind, right?

This month, however, I was intrigued to find out that there are quite a few things completely not related to Sherlock Holmes - that bear the name Sherlock!

For instance, did you know that Sherlock was the main file and web search tool used in Apple's Mac OS from 1998 to 2005?

It was!

Sherlock has today been replaced by 'Spotlight' and 'Dashboard' in the latest Mac OS versions. But from Mac OS 8.5 to Mac OS OS 10.4 (Tiger), Sherlock rocked every Apple computer out there!

Here's a screenshot from one of Sherlock's versions:

In the world of computers, Sherlock's also accompanied by Dr. Watson...

...That's because, till recently, Dr. Watson was the main debugger in all Windows operating systems.

This means, when there was an error in Windows - it was Dr. Watson who carefully jotted down and created a log of all the errors - just like our good old Dr. Watson's faithful journals.

In Windows 10, Microsoft has bid goodbye to Dr. Watson - it calls the debugger 'Problem Reports and Solutions' now.

Here's a screenshot of a message from an older version of 'Dr. Watson':

But that's not all when it comes to Dr. Watson and Sherlock Holmes' shared names!

In NASA's 2020 Mars mission, guess what the name of the Raman spectrometer that will study the minerals on Mars and detect organic compounds is...?

(Yes, the 'K' is missing - that's because the full form of SHERLOC is Scanning Habitable Environments with Raman and Luminescence for Organics and Chemicals.)

Here's more about this spectrometer.

Interesting, how Sherlock appears in absolutely unexpected places.

Funny Sherlockian Poems

This month, I posted a fun page on Sherlock Holmes limericks. The page has 20 ridiculous (or so I think) limerick poems that might just have you in splits. :-)

Here we go:

The Sherlock Holmes Fan Store

I had launched the Sherlock Holmes Fan Store in January.

It has some interesting t-shirts and mugs - and features popular Sherlockian quotes with a twist..

If you haven't visited it yet, do take a peek. I'd really appreciate your frank feedback about it here:

Sherlockian Discoveries of the Month

This month, I have two interesting discoveries to share.

The first one is a fascinating page about Sherlockian books for kids at

I stumbled upon it accidentally and am glad I did! If you have a kid and you love Sherlock Holmes, you'll love this page. It has loads of recommendations for children - from tiny-tots to middle-graders to teens.

My other discovery this month was a video of Jeremy Brett's 'bar fight scene' adapted from The Adventure of the Solitary Cyclist.

I had read The Solitary Cyclist and the scene in which Sherlock Holmes punches a guy many times - but I hadn't seen the Jeremy Brett episode.

Watching Jeremy Brett punch is fun. Here's the video:

Well, that's about it this month!

See you soon.
