How Many Sherlock Holmes Themed Restaurants Are There and More Interesting Stuff
September 16, 2016
Hi

I'm Megh from SherlockHolmes-Fan.com.

Let's start off with:

The Fascinating Sherlockian Tid-bit of the Month

In past newsletter issues, I've written about towns called 'Sherlock' and software called 'Sherlock' and even a river called 'Sherlock.'

This time, the thought that struck me was: how many Sherlock Holmes themed restaurants/pubs are there in the world?

How many have good old Sherlock's reference in their names?

Turns out, there are quite a few restaurants, cafes and bars named after Sherlock Holmes!

For starters, there is the famous Sherlock Holmes Pub in Trafalgar Square, London. The Baker Street sitting room is recreated on the upper floor of this pub.

But that's not even the tip of the iceberg. For example, did you know that there are places like Sherlock's Pub in Bangalore, India or the Sherlock Holmes English Pub in...Dubai?

There's a Sherlock Holmes pub in Manama, Bahrain, there's Sherlock's Baker Street Pub in Houston (USA), a restaurant called Sherlocks in Kent, England, Sherlock's in Uppsala, Sweden.....

Here's a picture from Sherlock's Pub, Bangalore:

And I've just gotten started!

After some gripping research, here's what I found:

There are at the very least 85 Sherlock Holmes themed (or named) cafes, restaurants and pubs in the world!

And this is a conservative estimate because these are the ones I actually counted on TripAdvisor. I wouldn't be surprised if the actual number of Sherlock Holmes themed restaurants and pubs is double this number.

The ones I counted included countries like South Korea, Poland, the UAE, France, Australia, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Germany, Japan, Brazil, Belarus and plenty more!

Want proof? Just type 'Sherlock [Country Name] Restaurant' or 'Sherlock [Country Name] Pub' on Google and watch the magic unfold!

I mean we know a lot of people in the world love Sherlock Holmes - but it's heartening to know it's these many people. :-)

Stuff I've Posted on SherlockHolmes-Fan.com and Beyond

1. Recently, a reader from Michigan, the US, posted his experience about how he first came across Sherlock Holmes - and how he became a fan. Here's what he wrote:

Just like me, this guy too read about Sherlock Holmes early in life and then forgot about him. Until - he re-discovered Sherlock Holmes all over again. (That's what happened with me too.)

How did YOU first discover Sherlock Holmes? Here's how I did:

2. I've had fun writing some interesting Sherlockian answers on Quora. Here are two of those answers you might like:

Answer 1: Here's how my real life has been affected by Sherlock Holmes

Answer 2: Were Sherlock and Mycroft common names before Conan Doyle used them?

Sherlockian Discoveries of the Month

There was quite a lot of stuff I stumbled upon this month!

First, there was this super-cool Sherlock parody by The Hillywood Show. Here it is:

Definitely worth a few watches.

Then, I stumbled upon a Russian Sherlock Holmes series that was telecast in 2013! I mean, I just hadn't heard about it till recently. Here's more about it:

This month, I also learnt that John Lennon (from the Beatles) actually wrote a Sherlock Holmes pastiche/parody! In fact, here's its full text:

And finally, here's a brilliant Sherlockian map of London I came across that lists almost every place in London related to Sherlock Holmes:

A superb effort, that!

Well, that's about it for the month!

See you soon. :-)
